Welcome back to this week’s training update!
It’s been a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, which, as usual, means the CrossFit workouts tend to ramp up in intensity. Right now, I’m hitting three CrossFit sessions per week, and on my off days, I supplement with indoor cycling—usually aiming for at least one, sometimes two, rides to keep my fitness ticking over.
With the heavier load over the long weekend, I’ve only managed one indoor cycling session this week, but it was a solid one on the Zwift turbo trainer. I’ve been focusing on Sweet Spot Training—riding at around 88–94% of max effort. It’s a great way to build endurance and power without overreaching, and it helps with ongoing FTP development.
This week, I tackled the Big Gear SST workout (below).

I’m keeping tabs on everything through Garmin, and I’ve seen my training load gradually increasing.
Here are some current stats:
- Garmin: VO2 Max: 47 – putting me in the top 20% for my age and gender
- Zwift FTP: 179 watts
- Zwift Z-map: 221 watts
I’ll be tracking these metrics over time to see how both CrossFit and cycling are contributing to performance gains. A blog post on FTP and how to improve and monitor it is coming soon too.
The goal? Improve my FTP, get fitter, and level up in Zwift races.
Until next time—keep cycling on!
