Week 6 – Back to Full Power
I’m back! Week six and I’m feeling fresh, finally returning to normal after a bit of a reset. Taking the weekend off alcohol made a huge difference, my energy levels were way up, sleep quality was better, and I just felt like I had loads more in the tank all week.
New Blog Post Live Today
There’s a new post going live today all about getting started on your indoor cycling journey. It includes all the kit I originally bought, what I still use, and what I recommend now. If you’re just getting into this, it should give you a solid head start.
Health & Fitness
Healthy eating-wise, I’m just in maintenance mode at the moment. No dramatic weight loss to report, but I’m definitely feeling a bit firmer in places an, more importantly, my energy is noticeably better.
This Week’s Ride
This week I tackled the “Half Hour of Power” on Zwift, riding the High Line in New York. It was a 14km session, around 300 calories burned, and yep you guessed it: 30 minutes of effort.

It was straight in at the deep end. The ride included two identical segments that gradually ramped up in intensity, testing my ability to push through short, sharp bursts. Tough, but satisfying.
I’m planning an FTP test next week to see where I’m at. I’m not expecting massive improvements as I’ve only been cycling once a week, but I’ve been super consistent with CrossFit recently. Hoping that power and cardio base helps bump my FTP up a bit from where it was just after Christmas.
What I Learned This Week
Gut health. I went down the rabbit hole after watching some Andrew Huberman content-search “Gut Health Andrew Huberman” on YouTube and thank me later. It’s a brilliant resource.
I’ve started incorporating more gut-friendly foods like kombucha, Greek yoghurt, and sauerkraut. (Pro tip: make sure it’s unpasteurised Saurkraut -that’s where all the good bacteria live.) I’ve also tried a few CBD drinks to replace alcohol at the weekends. It could be placebo, could be the lower alcohol, but I’ve definitely felt more chilled out.
Gear Shoutout: Garmin Fenix 6 Pro
This week’s gear shoutout goes to my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. I’ve been using it for over three years and it still delivers. From sleep tracking to VO2 max, heart rate, and training load, it gives a really comprehensive picture of where I’m at physically. It also syncs seamlessly with Zwift, my Wahoo KICKR, and Strava. Not cheap, but honestly? Worth every penny.
Until next time–stay consistent, look after your gut, and keep those pedals turning.
Keep cycling on! 🚴♂️💨
